Avalanche Creek curves through the dense forest along the Trail of the Cedars in Glacier National Park. Fed by water draining the steep slopes of Avalanche Basin and flowing from Avalanche Lake, the creek is known for its striking blue water and for the erosive force that carved nearby Avalanche Gorge.

Here, the bend brings the creek nearly straight across the frame, while a longer exposure blends the movement of water over rocks along the creek's edge. The surrounding old growth forest is characteristic of the lower Avalanche Creek area, where some trees have stood for more than 500 years.
